She Sells Seashells

With our Christmas Open House less than two weeks away I’m back to creating special projects for the event. In case you missed it, I took a little break from Christmas in last week’s post.

I recently bought an attractive, yet very plain, decorative box but it just screamed for something extra.

BEFORE
BEFORE

I remembered some seashells that I had purchased at a yard sale, so I selected a pretty shell and glued it to the lid. The shell makes the perfect “knob” and feels so good in the hand.

AFTER

While I had my seashell stash on the work desk, I decided to create one more project. A vintage pivoting frame became the target for my beachy embellishment.

BEFORE
The frame already had a textured sand-like finish, so I painted it gray (it was gold) and added three sweet shells to the bottom of the frame.

Since the Gulf Coast is less than a two-hour drive away, we appreciate coastal living here. I hope one of these projects will be the perfect gift for someone’s beach-themed decor.

Wicked Chickens!

Lately I’ve been publishing posts about our upcoming Christmas Open House, but today I’m going to take a break from Christmas and post something a little different.

I was browsing online earlier this year and came across a sign that mentioned Wicked Chickens. I decided it should be the inspiration for a fun Halloween display so I lettered the words on a chalkboard……

I collected several egg plates…….

Found a chicken coat rack/mirror and repainted it……

BEFORE

AFTER
Added a witches’ hat to the chicken mirror…….

Attached a pitchfork to a chicken figurine, added other poultry related items…..

And created a fun and “wicked” display…….

I’ve already sold a couple of egg plates.
I guess they had some wicked chickens!

Grab a Recipe

Every year about this time, I gather up all the old recipe cards, handwritten recipes and clipped recipes that I’ve bought at estate and yards sales throughout the year. Sometimes I find them in old recipe boxes. Other times I find them shoved into plastic bags by the estate sale professionals and priced to sell. I sort and bag them with a mixture of handwritten and clipped recipes and make them available at our Open House. The “grab bags” make fun stocking stuffers and I always sell out.

I’ve also managed to find a few old recipe boxes, too. I love the colorful metal ones by Ohio Art and J Chen.

Along with the recipes and recipe boxes this year, I’ve created a few cookbook/recipe card holders from cheese graters. I start with a flat grater and some miscellaneous junk….

And fashion a one-of-a-kind kitchen tool…..
