Surprise Sale

It was quite a surprise to see a single yard sale listed in the classifieds last week, especially since it mentioned vintage glassware. Mom and I made sure to check it out and here's what we found.....

This 6-bottle Victorian castor set is gorgeous and I've already tagged it for sale ......

I found 4 pieces of Fostoria in the Coronet pattern......

This is not glassware, but I was excited to find a vintage GE electric knife w/fork and wall holder in the original box.....

These 2 English Hobnail footed tumblers were quite the find......

On the fun side, there was a huge iced tea glass!

A copper, wood and crystal lazy susan will be great for holiday entertaining.....

Pretty plates from Johnson Bros, Avon China and a cup/saucer by Homer Laughlin......

A these beautiful ruby red pieces are perfect for the Christmas season......

Year-End City-Wide Yard Sale

I’ve told you before about the City-Wide Yard sales held at our city’s multi-purpose building. Since they are held inside, there are no weather worries so shopping is the main concern. There are three sales per year and the final sale of 2014 was held last weekend. Mom decided not to go this time, so I was on my own. I sure could have used one of those rolling shopping baskets. Even without one, I carried home these goodies….

A shell-pink Baltimore Pear creamer, a gorgeous demitasse cup/saucer, a crystal butter dish and a doily…….

4 Boopie juice glasses and 2 Avon Cape Cod ruby candle holders…..

A few Little Golden Books…..

Wet/dry measuring cup, vintage metal matchbox holder, nut grinder and biscuit/donut cutter….

Of course, Pyrex! Snowflake open sugar & creamer and Spring Blossom Green butter dish…

I found all of the above in my first trip around the building. I decided to make an additional round and I am so glad I did. Look what was hiding under a table….

A vintage Towne leather suitcase…..

It even came in handy for carrying
some of my purchases to the car!

Just Three Weeks!

Rudolph is headed back to town in just three weeks! Yikes! I’ve GOT to get busy decorating the house for the holidays.

Maybe, like me, you’re a little late in decking the halls so I thought I would show you these elegant Spode Christmas Tree ornaments to get you in the mood to get those boxes down from the attic and start the decorating.

Train Engine

Rocking Horse

Plate and Golden Spoon

These ornaments, as well as several vintage ornaments, are available in my booth.

Do you own a piece of Spode Christmas Tree china?

The Calm AFTER the Storm

Life was extremely hectic before our Christmas Open House earlier this month. I planned and priced for weeks, then created displays for several days prior to the big day. Thankfully, all the hard work paid off and we had a Fabulous Open House. Then….

Everything….. calmed….. down….. Don’t get me wrong….sales are still good, but filling in gaps in the displays is easy compared to creating the displays in the first place. This new “calm” made me anxious to hunt for more inventory, BUT cold weather came early to the deep South. Cold weather = no yard sales. Even estate sales gave me the cold shoulder! Finally we warmed up last weekend and sales that had been delayed until warmer weather were held and now I have something to blog about!!!

Mom and I attended an estate sale and a great yard sale held by a sweet local blog reader/customer. Here are a few of the things we found…..

A toy telephone and a child's pillowcase.....

Children's books and a vintage kaleidoscope.......

More books. This time Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries.....

USA goose planter and a folding yardstick.....

Vintage Detecto waste basket.......

Westmoreland beaded plate and 2 embroidered handcloths.....

And, of course, some kitchenware... A Pyrex flameware teapot, Fire-King swirl mixing bowl and a vintage toaster cover.....

Have the yard sales cooled off where you live?

And here's a close up of what it looks like "after".....

Here's another Open House project that I haven't blogged about.....

Barn Sale and More!

As the temperatures cool off around here, so do the number of sales; however, I was pleased to attend my first barn sale last weekend. Things were a little pricey for resell but I did manage to find a few things there and at a couple of yard sales being held nearby.

One vendor had several old doorknobs, so I bargained for these…..

I bought a blue Cameoware (Harker China) serving bowl and a brown Monmouth mixing bowl….

The pink child’s mug is another piece of Cameoware. A perky pixie perches on a small Shawnee planter and Smiley (also Shawnee) is an orphan salt/pepper shaker that I couldn’t leave behind….

Of course, it’s always a good day when I find Pyrex….

Our Christmas Open House is quickly approaching and my office is stacked with projects and boxes of items that will be displayed soon. For example, this sweet bottlebrush tree was bought without a base; so I upcycled an old spool to accommodate it. It’s pictured with a vintage Santa that I found recently.

Finally, I wanted to show you the “before” and “after” of a project I just finished.

I found this small chest of drawers (think large jewelry box) a few months ago. I’m from the Magnolia State, but the painted magnolias really did not appeal to me. The chest had good bones, as they say, so I bought it and put it in the garage until I found some inspiration for its make-over.

Well, it sat there…..

And sat there….

And finally inspiration came in the form of some old yardsticks and now…….

She measures up!
