Spring has almost sprung here in South Mississippi and seasonal pastel colors are popping out everywhere; but, it was RED that caught my eye at the estate sale last weekend. Red just has a special way of standing out in the palette of many colors at a vintage sale.
I brought home a basketful of reds…….
A red/white plaid dishtowel made it into the basket as well as a red plastic Lustro-ware recipe box.
That box would have been even better if it had been full of old handwritten recipes, but it’s OK. I found several vintage cookbooks!
Look at this old 1955 cookbook from an Electric Cooperative in Floydada , Texas ….
I also bought the popular River Road Cookbooks from the Junior League of Baton Rouge, Louisiana…..
Is red your favorite color?
I’m linking to the following parties:

Like all those reds. The River Road books are great-of course I love Junior Leaugue cookbooks. Hope I get to go to Flowood for the big sale this weekend-it would be nice to go to a really great sale.
ReplyDeleteRed is one of my favourites for sure (that and the vintage light green colour). I love recipe box!
ReplyDeleteNo, I am more of a pink girl LOL! I was reading an old cook book I picked up at a thrift store and I loved where it said when the lard gets hot put the bacon in to cook LOL! No wonder their life expectancy was 50!

Love that red recipe box. Lucky you. Also love your banner-really cute!
ReplyDeleteI love looking thru old cookbooks, Sherry! They usually have some really neat graphics, and it's always fun to see what foods were popular during that time. My favorite color is blue! Any shade, especially light blue!
ReplyDeleteI have that River Road cookbook! it was in with my Grandmothers cookbooks!
ReplyDeleteA red recipe box! What an incredible find! I'm envious!

You found the right estate sale this time. Great finds. I have a sister living in Herando, MS.
ReplyDeleteLove all your red, especially the recipe box and the 1955 cookbook...that was a good year:-) I've been finding red treasures lately, now I need to get around to inspecting them.
ReplyDeleteACK! I am digging all of your fab red finds! The recipe box...I'd be tempted to make off with that when you weren't looking.
ReplyDeleteI love red. Did you go there thinking red? Or did everything just sort of fall in place and you looked down and realized you had 'covered the red market?'
ReplyDeleteI DO love red in the kitchen BUT I limit it to November through Valentine's Day! It was my Grandmothers VERY FAVORITE for her kitchen and every time I look at vintage goodies of red "I DO BUY THEM" and think of her! I LOVE all those little red goodies you bought! I NEVER pass up a tea towel, and those COOKBOOKS are "MUST HAVES"!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing,
Hugs to you,
Donna
How did you know? Red IS my favorite color! Right now, I'm wearing a red shirt, sitting in my red-walled family room- lots of red in my home!
ReplyDeleteI do love the color red. It was the color of my bridesmaids dresses (way back in the day)!
ReplyDeleteYou found some great stuff!!

I love the Lighthouse Electric Cooperative cookbooks. There are lots of good cooks in Floydada. My mom was the home economist there in the mid 60's. The little electric plug mascot is Willie Wiredhand.
ReplyDeleteI love old cookbooks. I always enjoy reading them. Some of the recipes are so unhealthy it's funny. My how times have changed. Yes I love red!~Ames
